Trabuco Canyon has been touched by three major fires since 2007, more than any other Orange County community on this site. Spread along Trabuco Creek at the base of the Santa Ana Mountains in OCFA's Local Responsibility Area, it's mapped Very High, and the Zone Zero ember-resistant zone standard applies to every structure.
Fire record
The 2007 Santiago Fire burned through Trabuco's canyon corridor. The 2018 Holy Fire, ignited in adjacent Holy Jim Canyon, burned 23,136 acres and destroyed 18 structures on this front of the mountains. And in 2024 the Airport Fire burned 23,526 acres and 160 structures, reaching Trabuco Canyon directly. No other community here makes the case for the first five feet more plainly: fires keep arriving, and ember ignition at the structure is the repeatable, preventable failure.
